March Annual Meeting

Our Annual  Meeting
 March 16, 2012
The meeting was attended by approximately 50 members with Joan Nelson presiding. Our speaker was Sherry Boas;  an author, an Orlando Sentinel columnist, and a grower and expert on bamboo. She taught us all a wealth of information about bamboo, its many uses and its growing environment.  Need privacy and want beauty -- Plant bamboo!

New Member Tea

Our New Member Tea on February 16 was a wonderful event.
Thanks to all that helped make this a fun afternoon.
Welcome to all our new members!

Arbor Day 2012

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION
To celebrate Florida Arbor Day on January 20th, The Lakes & Hills Garden Club partnering with the City of Mount Dora planted an American Fringe Tree in front of the Simpson House, an old restored farm house used by the city for meetings and events. A fringe tree is a Florida native deciduous tree with white flowers in the spring, yellow fall color and blue/black fruit. It provides food and nesting resources for birds and wildlife.

Beautifying Our Town

Here we are caring for the planters at the local post office and along main street. We also plant and weed at the Simpson House, a local historical house that is used for meetings and card parties.
